Resolute Lighthouse Chapter of NJHS

What We Do

We participate in service projects throughout our community both as individuals and as a chapter. This past year, we raised $487.27 for the Department of Veteran Affairs for Center for Development & Civic Engagement (CDCE); (Formerly VA Voluntary Service). They are responsible for recruiting, interviewing and the placement of Volunteers to assist Veterans and Staff at our Medical Facilities. In Addition their biggest Mission is to reach out to various Veteran Organizations and partner with local buisness in the Community to gather monetary support to promote our VA Annually Mandated Activities, Events and Programs at our Veteran Affairs Medical Facilities here in Corpus Christi; Armed Forces Day, Memorial Day, National Prisoners of War and/or Missing in Action Recognition Day, Veterans Day, National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans Week, Veteran Welcome Home Event, providing refreshments for all CDCE activities, Homeless Veteran Program, and New Patient Orientation Program.

This chapter also seeks to promote the character traits honored by NJHS by holding days in school where we can promote and teach these character traits to the student body.

Seashore Middle Academy Student Council

Developing Leaders. Serving Others. Making an Impact.

Seashore Middle Academy Student Council (STUCO) is a leadership-development program designed to develop confident, capable, and civic-minded student leaders.

STUCO gives students opportunities to move beyond the classroom and experience leadership in action. Throughout the year, students will interact with community leaders, visit local organizations and workplaces, participate in service and leadership activities, and reflect on what they are learning through journaling and discussion.

Each month focuses on a different leadership theme, including Principles of Leadership, Service Leadership, Civic Responsibility, Servant Leadership, Growth Mindset, Teamwork, Communication, and Environmental Stewardship. Students will also meet a Coastal Bend community leader—our “Launching Leader”—who will share their experiences, challenges, and perspectives on leadership.

Leadership in Action

STUCO is intentionally designed to connect leadership lessons to the real world. Students may have opportunities to:

  • Meet and learn from local business, civic, military, nonprofit, and community leaders
  • Visit local organizations, workplaces, and community sites
  • Participate in service and community-based projects
  • Develop communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
  • Explore how leadership connects to future careers and community involvement
  • Reflect on their experiences and identify ways they can become stronger leaders

Our goal is for students to understand that leadership is not about having a title—it is about how you influence, serve, communicate, and make a difference.

What We Expect From Our Members

STUCO membership is a privilege and comes with high expectations. Students represent Seashore Middle Academy when interacting with community leaders and participating in off-campus experiences.

Members are expected to:

  • Demonstrate respectful, responsible, and professional behavior
  • Maintain passing grades in accordance with UIL requirements
  • Maintain good standing with classroom attendance, including the required 90% attendance rate in each class
  • Attend STUCO meetings, activities, and leadership experiences consistently
  • Be prepared to represent Seashore Middle Academy positively in the community

Students may not miss more than three scheduled STUCO events per semester. Excessive absences may result in forfeiture of membership.

A Year of Leadership

Each month brings a new leadership focus and a new opportunity to put leadership into action. Experiences planned for the 2026–2027 school year include visits and interactions with leaders from NAS Corpus Christi, the City of Corpus Christi, Nueces County, CASA of the Coastal Bend, local business, athletics, local media, and Coastal Bend Bays & Estuaries.

We are not just teaching students about leadership. We are giving them opportunities to lead.
